Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania
Pet ownership
My wife was in the process of giving our family dog away, the woman had interacted well with the dog in our home, the dog was friendly and and let the woman pet her and licked her. the woman had put the dog in her car and was proceeding to close the door the dog lunged and bite her face causing substantial injury, this dog has never before bitten anyone and has never showed abnormal behavior, needless to say I'm very distraught over the injury, but i need to know what my responsibility in this matter is ! Any helpful information is greatfully appreciated

Re: Pet ownership
On the facts you state, if the dog had not shown any signs of dangerous behavior, you wouldn't be liable under Pennsylvania law. But you should report the incident to your homeowner's insurance: they may have coverage for her medical expenses, and they'll defend you if a claim is made.
