Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

Regarding a protection from Abuse order

I had an unfounded PFA placed against me based on nontruthful information. My hearing is scheduled for this Friday at 9 am. The paper says that if I do not attend the hearing, they can rule on it regardless. Since I am NOT around this person and have no desire to be, does it really matter if I go to this hearing or not?

If you fail to appear, the court can impose the costs of the action, ayttorney's fees and force other actions upon you. You need to speak with an attorney.

Yes: You should oppose it because you do not want a PFA order entered against you at a hearing. Then, if you cross paths by mistake, you will be in violation of the law. You should talk to a private attorney as soon as possible.

Re: Regarding a protection from Abuse order

You asked about attending a hearing regarding a PFA.

You do not want a PFA order on your record. this could cause you problems later in life, such as not getting a job or promotion. It also affects your rights in other ways, where you may not be able to get a gun permit or where it could be used against you later in life.

By all means show up and have an attorney with you. It will be worth the moderate fee to save a headache later on.

Regards,

Roger
