Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

I have recieved a notice to go to court over a civil suite. I am not able to attend and the court cannot make exemptions towards the matter even though I have medical excuses. I now know that I am going to loose the case by defaul (on account of not showing), what should I expect next?

I would suggest that you retain a lawyer. First, it would be in your best interest to have someone present your case at the hearing and Second, the lawyer may be able to get a continuance.

If you don't retain a lawyer and you don't show up, a default judgment will be entered. If this isn't paid, then the plaintiff may file the judgment and request a sheriff's sale. If the plaintiff requests a sheriff's sale, then the sheriff will come to your home and take an inventory of your property to be sold at an auction to pay the judgment. There are some exceptions as to what they can take and if you are married, some of the items may be considered marital property, which may not be taken unless both you and your wife are named defendants.
