I think my old employer has blackballed me. What information is my old employer required to give my new employer. How can I find out if they are giving me an unfavorable reference and what is my recourse?

You can sue for defamation if what your former employer is telling others is not true but new employers don't like to get involved in those kind of matters so it is difficult to find out if the old employer is giving bad references or not.
