Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

Responsibility for gravestone damage

Recently my grandmother's bronze grave marker was stolen by a prior cemetery employee, who we believe used the cemetery's equiment to remove the stone. There were approximately 70 stones removed in at least two separate instances. We now have to pay the cemetery a reduced fee of $600 to have the headstone fixed and replaced. Does the cemetery have any responsiblity or any insurance that they would be liable? Especially as this occured more than once. We will have the stone replaced; however, it is definetly a financial hardship. Please advise. Thank you!

I believe that they do have responsibility. If you have homeowners insurance, that may cover the theft as well. You can sue them in small claims court without a lawyer

It would seem that the cemetary definitley has some responsibility here. You should inquire about whether they have insurance, and if they give you a hard time, you can sue them yourself in District Justice (small claims) court.
