Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

What are my rights to sell abandoned personal property?

Girl i was dating moved into my apt. she's not on lease nor has any utilities in

her name. i incurred a lot of expenses related to her move bec she said she

didnt have a credit card. When money became an issue, the arguments

started and the relationship disintegrated. I asked her to leave but she said

she didn't have any money to leave or aplace to go. one nite when i came

home from work, she wasn't speaking to me and walked out and wouldn't

answer where she was going was asked. After i retrned from wkend trip,

several boxes were packed, but she, her car, dog and computer were gone.

It's been 10 days and i've emailed her to ask of her intentions and

whereabouts but no reply. i don't have an address for her. I now have a

houseful of her personal property and want my life back. What are my rights

to dispose of her belongings? do i need to legally claim ownership (or can i

ever?) before i do something? i'd like to sell them to reclaim money that i'm

out. Considering chnging locks to my apt as well. is there a time limit that i

need to keep her stuff? without an physical address, can't send her notice of

my intentions.

Re: What are my rights to sell abandoned personal property?

You first might consider notifying the police to her unexplained disappearance. If you don't and she winds up dead in a field somewhere they may want to know why you didn't call them. Just because she was not on the lease doesn't mean she has no right to the appartment. She was clearly a tennant and having no lease is considered a month to month tennant. So if she is healthy and not speaking to you you would have to go to court to evict her or get her to voluntarily give up her tennancy. I offer free consultations.
