Wage Law and Defamation and Slander

I was fired from my previous place of employment, I was a technical instructor. My employer refuses to pay me because he claims they are considering filing a suite against me for defamation and slander and cited my attitude and statements that I didn't care about my job, or the students, or the company and that I told the students that I was leaving. I know I never said anything bad about the company or my students, and it was true I had given notice that I was leaving. Do they have a case against me and how long can they refuse to pay me. It has been a week since the last regular payday already.

From what you have written I do not see any legal basis for refusing to pay you wages due. Generally an employer in PA has to pay wages due on the next paydate after an employee no longer works there. If they fail to do so they can incur penalties, interest, costs and sometimes attorney's fees required to get payment. There is also a possibility of criminal charges for failure to pay. You should talk to an attorney and have a letter written to your former employer. This will probably resolve the matter.
