Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

Wrong Number Calls from a Company

We continually receive phone calls from a company looking for a man who does not live here, and has not had this phone number in over 30 years (if ever; we have had the number for over 30 years). We have told them this man does not live here, hasn't had this number recently, and to stop calling us. They continue to call anyway. One time, I did manage to find out the name of the company...assuming I was told the truth. Twice they have said they would remove the number...but as yet have failed to do so. Is there any legal action we can take to get them to stop calling? We have threatened harassment charges...but they still call. We believe it is in regard to a debt collection, but can't say for certain.

Re: Wrong Number Calls from a Company

You asked about stopping collection calls.

Tell them you they must stop communicating by phone. Also, that they are contacting you at a place of work and you are not allowed to receive calls of this nature at work. (Don't say it's your place of employment, but rather work.)

Then send a short letter confirming that you do not want to deal with them on the phone.

Then send any letters back if the debt is not yours. Look up FDCPA and see what others do to annoy collectors. Ask them stupid questions. tell them about your day, your grandkids. I can usually get a telemarketer off the phone simply by saying "are you naked? I am."

Regards,

Roger

Re: Wrong Number Calls from a Company

PA Do Not Call List may be a start and if you have the company's name a letter from an attorney might get their attention.

Check also if your local phone company has a call rejection service that may be able to block their number from ringing your line.

Good luck to you.
