Legal Question in Health Care Law in Pennsylvania

Health Insurance

My father went into the hospital for a routine procedure, when something went wrong and left him with brain damage. After a couple of weeks, the hospital transferred my father to a nursing home. The nursing home instructed my mother to apply for welfare insurance to go along with his Atnea insurance in case his Atnea ran out. My fathers conditions worsened leading to him passing away a couple of months ago. Recently Welfare has informed my mother that she owes them $17,000. However, we discovered that when my father passed, he still had around 30 days left on his Atnea insurance. My mother called Atnea and asked them why didnt they cover my fathers remaining days at the hospital and they said that the nursing home called them and told them to drop the insurance. When my mother called the nursing home and asked them about what happened with the insurance, they told her that Atnea informed them that my fathers insurance was running out and that he would have to switch his insurance. So they are placing the blame on each other. But now Welfare is informing my mother that they are placing a Lean on her home and are threatening to take it away from her. Does anyone have any advice on what steps we should take?

Re: Health Insurance

You seem to have multiple issues. When did all this happen. You say your father went into the hospital for a routine procedure and something went wrong which left him with brain damage. Do you know what went wrong did you get an adequate explanaton from the doctor and medical providers. In any event it seems that the medical carrier and or welfare is passing the buck. You should call an attorney immediately. Time frames are important. Since I do not not have specific dates it is difficult to advise you. If you would like to schedule an appointment with my office then feel free to contact my office. In any event you or rather your mother should talk to someone immediately.
