Legal Question in Immigration Law in Pennsylvania

Misstatement during Citizenship Interview

I am currently in USA on student visa. My fiancee applied for citizenship before our Marriage so she put Unmarried on the form. We got married before her interview date. During her interview when she was asked whether she is married now or not, she got confused and said she is not married.

My question is that eventhough our Marriage is completely legit. She was under oath when she misstated her marital status by mistake. Would this cause any problem when we apply for my change of status? Some people are saying that this will even jeopardise her citizenship. Please advise us on this matter.

Re: Misstatement during Citizenship Interview

As you present the facts there should be no harm in correcting the mistake. On the flip side, I would recommend that you speak to an attorney to make sure any corrections go as smoothly as possible. Since a lot is riding on this, at least an initial consultation with an immigration attorney would be recommmended.
