What are the options for someone who is in the U.S. on a visitor's visa, becomes seriously ill, and wants to stay/apply for a Green Card?

There is not a basis for someone in need of medical care to apply for a green card. The person may be able to extend their visitor status if they can show an ability to pay for medical care expenses.
