Legal Question in Immigration Law in Pennsylvania

question on citizenship

Hi my name is Calixto and I am writing with a couple of questions for you. I just passed my U.S. citizenship test and I am going to my oath ceramoney on the 6th of febuary. My question to you is I want to petition for my mom and dad and sister and brother to come here i know i can do that but I also want to know if i could petition for my niece to come also. Because she lives with my mom and dad. They are her primary caregivers. And also how do I go about getting my sisters and brothers that are already here the perminent residents card. if you could help me out that would be great.

thanks in advance.

Re: question on citizenship

Congratulations on your citizenship. You can sponsor your parents for permanent residency. They fall under the category of "Immediate Relatives," and could be processed expeditiously. Your brother and sister would fall under the "Preference Relative" category, where processing takes much longer, often several years. You may or may not be able to sponsor your niece, but I would need more information regarding her situation with your parents; e.g. whether they have adopted her or are her sole guardians. In addition, you will have a limit of how many relatives you can sponsor based on your income. To determine this, I suggest you meet with an experienced immigration attorney who can calculate this for you, rather than risk an application that may be denied for lack of support.
