Legal Question in Insurance Law in Pennsylvania
Beneficiary payout after divorce
I am the Primary Beneficiary on a Life Insurance policy for my ex-husband. In the state of Pennsylvania are my rights to the payout of that policy revoked due to the divorce?

Re: Beneficiary payout after divorce
You asked about beneficiary of insurance.
The beneficiary of an insurance policy rarely is affected automatically by a divorce. Normally a policyholder must manually order the insurer to change the beneficiary.
It is actually fairly common for this to be missed in divorces and the ex-spouse ends up getting insurance proceeds that should have gone to a current spouse or other beneficiary. Sometimes this is done on purpose as either part of the settlement or for other purposes, such as to care for and protect children.
Hope this helps.
