Legal Question in Insurance Law in Pennsylvania

Medical claim through car insurance

My auto insurance carrier is saying they are not going to cover my medical expenses through my policy from an accident in which I was rear-ended by another vehicle. The reason I am being given is that because I was on the way to an open house ( I am a realtor) that it is job related and I have to go through my broker's workman's comp insurance. I am classified as an independent contractor; is this really the case? If I got in an accident during a commute to a job, wouldn't that be covered under my auto policy? I don't see the difference.
