Legal Question in Insurance Law in Pennsylvania

I recenly had an emergency that required quick service by others. Unable yo acquire same, I turned to a relative for help. Providing help caused the relative lost wages. I submitted a bill to the insurance co., along with other claims, but it was rejected. The co. wouldn't pay since the party had the same surname, claiming it was simply family help. Was this a proper rejection under a usual homeowners policy?

Generally yes. Unfortunately when a relative (other than a parent of young child) renders medical aid or assistance, it is deemed to be out of love and affection, and the relative who helped you is really not entitled to recover damages. You should take him/her out to dinner to show your thanks, but legally, the typical homewoner's policy would not provide for compensation, unless the relative was physically injured in some way.
