Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Pennsylvania

posting cover songs on a website

my band plays covers or already written and copyrighted material. - i.e. the songs you hear on the radio. my question is if we record our live shows, can i put the audio on our website for people to download, or is that copyright infringement?

Actually, you are already infringing the copyright by performing the works without a "mechanical" license from the composer. I suggest that you contact a qualified copyright lawyer before BMI/ASCAP finds you....
