Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania
My brother has been employed at a large regional grocrey chain (A&P) for nearly a decade and was promoted to the position of closing manager over two years ago. This year he requested to use one of his paid personal days on easter Sunday (we are catholic). He put in this request in january and the request was just denied this week less than two weeks before eater. He explained to his store and district managers that he needed off for the religious observance but they did not care and threatened to suspend him if he called out that day. Can they do this? Aren't religious observances one of the things protected by federal anti discriminatio laws?
