commission vs draw

what is the law for commission sales person and draw during a pay period? I have had large ammounts of commission withdrawn from my pay with my employer stating I owed it because of money given to me as a draw. I signed no contract with this employer. I requested that I not be given a draw and was told they had to pay for the hours I worked. What is the law in these points of question?
