Re: Court ordered appearances and time off

Pennsylvania law does not require that an employer compensate an employee for appearances in court even when the appearance is required by a subpoena. An employer would be able to count time spent out of work because of a court appearance as vacation or personal time but cannot otherwise penalize an employee for responding to a court ordered apearance. It would be an actionable violation of public policy to fire an employee for complying with a subpoena.
