Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

driscrimination/ harrassing

i'm a lead tech at my company . this is not a supervisor position. i give work assignments and oversee operations.i report directly to the dept manager.recently i was told i couldn't work with one person in my dept ,i was told not to be seen together because it made people from the other dept uncomforable.this person i have worked closely with for almost 2 years.i feel that since no one else is separated from working together why should we.i also believe since i am the only female lead tech that this is an order that is directed to me because of my gender. there are 3men and 1 other women in our department and i can work or help anyone but the one man. we have done nothing wrong but work well together. the dept was doing well until i was given this order. he feels that we are being punished because we are good workers and we do our jobs fast and we laugh.this is a direct hit to upset the dept and make me fail as the lead tech..i'm 47 and the man is 26.if it were the other way this request would never happen.is this legal ,can you be saparated based on prejudice and gender

Re: driscrimination/ harrassing

It is clearly illegal for an employer to make work rules based upon gender. However, if your behaviour with the male co-worker is other than professional, the employer may be justified in separating you.
