Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Employer Forced Compliance

Can an employer compel an employee to submit his/her phone bill (original copy, in entirety ) to the company in order to be reimbursed for a company required DSL line in the employees home, where the employee is required to work from home. No phone bill no reimbursement.

Re: Employer Forced Compliance

You asked about being required to submit an entire phone bill to an employer to get reimbursement for a partial charge on your phone bill.

Your employer can require you to submit a COPY of the entire bill. In this case I would redact all confidential information not subject to their need for verification. I am a privacy geek and would have almost everything redacted but may name and the item line to be reimbursed.

Make a copy of the original bill and redact all non-pertinent information on that copy. Then make a photocopy of the copy and submit that.

If your company still doesn't accept that then contact your compliance person and make them aware that this is a privacy issue. If that doesn't work, hire an attorney.

Regards,

Roger
