Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

I am being laid off from my job effective this Friday. I worked there for 4 year and in that time had several pay raises and accumulated vacation time. My employer says he may bring me back in the spring if business picks up. However, he says he would have to bring me back at a lower rate of pay and less vacation days than I currently have. Naturally, I would want a job back but is it legal to do this?

Yes, it is most likely legal. Unless you have an express agreement to the contrary, or you are a union member, you are most likely an "employee at will." As an "employee at will," you can insist on being paid more and give your employer the opportunity to pay or suffer your loss when you move on. Likewise, your employer can change the terms of your employment and you, then, have the right to decide whether to coninue the employment relationship.
