Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Mandatory uniforms

We have always had a mandatory dress code at work . My boss just hired a uniform company to provide us with mandatory uniforms . He then told us that we would have to pay a weekly fee for our new uniforms . Is this legal ?

Re: Mandatory uniforms

You asked about a mandatory uniform fee at work.

Hard situation to explain. First go through other posts and learn about at-will employment.

Your employer can require that employees wear a uniform and can require employees pay a uniform fee. But that uniform fee can be no higher than the best price an employee could find on his/her own. (e.g. Can't charge $20 for a $10 pair of pants.)

It's legal, and your only real choice is finding a new job unless you have a union. If you have an ADA reason not to wear a uniform then you may be able to opt out. But otherwise, get psyched for polyester.

Regards,

Roger
