Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Promise of Employment

My husband was offered a job as a truck driver. He was given all of the tests (which he passed). The man who hired him then passed my husband over to the personnel person for the final processing. Once there my husband was told that there was no such position as the one he was hired for. Now he can't reach the person who hired him and is constantly being told that he couldn't have been offered the job because it doesn't exist. On the say so of the first person who said he had been hired, my husband stopped looking for work. The time spent back and forth between the company and my husband went on for over a month. Now his unemployment is about to run out and in the end, he has no job. The boss who told him had the job went so far as to tell my husband that he had checked on the truck my husband would use. He said it was all ready for him. What can we do?

Re: Promise of Employment

If there really is no job, there is nothing you can do. However, it is very odd for a person to say there is a job when there is not. It could be that your husband is the victim of some unlawful discrimination. It is not uncommon for an employer who does not wish to hire someone because of race, gender or age to tell the prospective employee that there is no job. If you think the employer here was motivated by unlawful discrimination you should consult a lawyer promptly.
