It depends on what the situation is. In many cases an initial complaint must be brought to the EEOC within 90 days for a discriminatory action. Once a right to sue letter issue the party usually then has a 180 day window to bring suit.

In some cases suit must be brought within the statutory time frame for any underlying tort.
