Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania
Can Salary be reduced if job is not elimiated?
I have been in a management/consultant position for over 1 year. This role does have a ''sales'' component to it. My company has proposed a change in position to be more involved in sales (carrying a quota). They tell me they ''think'' they cannot reduce my salary legally...maybe for up to a year...they want to, as now I will be on a commission basis..is there a law about the reduction of salary, if the position is not eliminated?

There is no law in Pennsylvania that would prevent an employer from reducing a salary as long as the reduced salary complies witht the minimum wage laws. If you had a contract that guaranteed your salary for a particular period of time, the employer could not reduce it without your consent but if both parties agree to a new salary there is no impediment.
