Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Terminated while on Medical Leave

In Sept 2008 I was placed in hospital for low oxygen levels and was placed on medical leave until Feb 2009. I was notified by mail from the insurance company that held my vision insurance that I was terminated on 12-13-08. Employer was aware of how ill I was and received all proper paperwork. Are they allowed to do this without an explaination?
