termination after 20 years' employment

I am a nurse and worked for the same nursing home for 20 years with no problems. One year before my termination, I got family leave under FMLA due to my having an autistic daughter. I was never told by my employer that this leave act ends after 1 year. When I was finally told this, it was three weeks before my termination and I was never given the appropriate paperwork to reapply. During this time, my mother had a stroke and needed my help. I took several days off and was terminated when I reached the maximum allowable days. I feel that I was given deliberate misinformation and was fired because the head nurse intensely dislikes me due to a prior relationship she had with my brother. I am certain that she finally effected my termination. In addition, I was withoput health insurance for one month because the company delayed in sending me the Cobra paperwork. Do I have cause to file suit?

I would look into whether you have a case under the Older Worker Benefit Protection Act, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

Seems like a FMLA question may have developed into a full-blown lawsuit, complete with 1896 CRA relation. Better, "lawyer-up" as soon as possible with an Employment Attorney. Time limits apply.
