Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Tip Outs

I work part time as a hostess and make $10.00/hr. The servers give 2% as tip outs. I have been working there for 1 yr. and tip outs were always at least $4/hr. and were done by the assistant managers. They both have since quit and now the GM is doing them. He is now giving us between $2-$3 per hr. saying that is sufficent. No other explanation given - he refuses to discuss where the money is now going, avoids all questions. Some of us have learned he has collected approx. $800.00 and is using it to buy things for the restaurant so the budget is keep and management bonuses are kept in tack. Whether or not this is true, is he allowed to determine what amount we now get? Shouldn't a tip out be just that - a tip out?

Thank you.

Re: Tip Outs

Unity of action is your best bet. I am sure the servers don't want there tip money that they tip out to go to fixing up the restaurant. If all the servers and hotstesses get together and demand an explanation you are at less risk of being fired.
