Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Unauthorized References

A future employer was given several references that came out fine. Additionally, they contacted other references I had not authorized and one came back with some negative feedback, which in turn made the potential employer withdraw their contract. I am asking them to provide me with the names of the people they contacted without my knowledge or consent and they're telling me they won't release any information to me regarding these reference. Is there a law or statute I can provide them with that states they are required to release the names of these people to me?

Re: Unauthorized References

Unfortunately no such law exists. Additionally, under Florida law, employers have immunity with respect to employment references unless you can prove, by clear and convincing evidence, in a Court of law, that the information disclosed was "knowingly false." Nontheless, a letter from a lawyer may convince them to release the information even though they are under no legal obligation to do so.
