Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Can They really get away with this?

I worked for a company for 2 and a half years, 2 years ago I was payed to sign a statement stating that I could not go to another co. for 3 years after ending there. To me this says that if I quit here for a higher paying job that i have experience in(because they were not paying me anymore(no raise in over a year)that they can sue me, so I have to get another job unexperienced in which means same or cut in pay which I can't survive on now, that is the reason for the new job in the first place. So they have an attorney send my new employer a letter saying that they are sueing me(I've recieved nothing yet) so now my new job has to let me go due to their name being drug into a court of law. I don't have money for a lawyer. Please tell me what I can do, I am now unemployed because I found a higher paying job so I can survive instead of treading water. Thank You

Under Pennsylvania law, non-competition agreements in employment contracts are only enforceable if they are signed at the start of employment or when the employees job duties

significantly expand. Therefore, a non-competition agreement signed one year after the start of employment would not be enforced under Pennsylvania Law.
