Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Working as a Fiction Writer on a TD Visa

I am a Canadian citizen living in the united states. My wife has a TN work visa. I have a TD residence visa, which does not qualify me to work.

I have published one novel previously while living in Canada and am currently working on a second novel (which i started while living in Canada). When I complete the novel, will I be legally limited in my ability to sell it?

Also: What about short stories that I write while living here? Can I sell them to American magazines? How about Canadian ones?

Thank you very much

Re: Working as a Fiction Writer on a TD Visa

You asked about selling your writing while in the U.S. on a visitor visa.

On your visa you are not allowed to earn any money in any way, shape or form directly from U.S. employers in the U.S.

There are of course ways around this given that you are in a line that does not take jobs away from U.S. persons. I would be happy to help you in these matters. Please call me at your convenience to discuss arrangements on how to distribute your works without violating your visa.

Regards,

Roger
