Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania
Abandoned property?
My roommate has not paid for the month of December so I've paid the landlord for December myself in full. The 14th of December, my roommate disappeared, leaving personal property behind. Attempts to contact my roommate by phone are to no avail. I do not know my roommate's email address. I called my roommate's work. They told me my roommate no longer works there. I'd like to quickly find another roommate so that I won't have to pay for January myself, but with my roommate's things still here, I don't know what to do. When will my roommate's personal property be considered abandoned property?

Re: Abandoned property?
The best way to cover yourself is to have the local magistrate declare the property abandoned. The issue there is how would you serve him notice? You could file and hope the constable tracks him down, however, that will probably take more time then you have available.
You might try harder maybe some of his co-workers might know. You also might check with the local police to see if they are looking for him.
