Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

We co-signed a 1 yr. lease on an apartment for my daughter. After 1` yr. the landlord went to a month to month lease. We did not sign any papers agreeing to a month to month lease. My daughter has moved out after 13 yrs. of living in this apartment. We recieved a registered letter stating that we, as co-signers, owe $3000 for unpaid rent and other expenses. Are we liable when we only sgned for a 1 yr lease?
