Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

Landlord/Tenant

Our new landlords say that there can be no one living in our complex that has a criminal record. They will not allow my fiance to be on the lease because of that. However, there are people living in the complex with a criminal record (some on probation) but they signed a lease under the old landlord. Does the new landlord have to evict them since they won't accept my fiance? Don't they have to be consistent in who is living in their complex?

Re: Landlord/Tenant

No, they can make the rule from a given date going forward. One way would be to refuse to renew leases. They don't have to break leases.

There are several protected classes when it comes to housing things like race or age. There is no protection for the portion of the population with a criminal record.

Sorry, what they're doing is legal and with in their rights.
