Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

rental increase

I have been renting my apartment for 14 months. It is on a month to month agreement. The landlords just raised my rent april 1. I was just informed they are going to raise it again. They raised it about 10%. How many time s can they raise my rent. I was told one of the reasons is because of my water usage. I live in an 8 apartment building , they do not have water meters on each apartment. thank you

Re: rental increase

A month-to-month agreement is just that. The notice that your landlord has to give you to change the terms of the lease is equal to the lease term (i.e., 30 days). So long as he is giving you proper notice, he can change the amount of your rent.

You should attempt to negotiate some sort of longer term agreement to stabilize your rent and other terms.

Re: rental increase

Unfortunately, your monthly agreement speaks for itself. It is an agreement for one month. If it is automatically renewing every month without required agreement then he must give you a 30 day notice that the rent will be raised. You probably want to enter into a 6 month or 1 year lease to avoid rental increases.
