Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

I have been renting an apartment for 2 years in New Park,PA. When we first moved in we were paying rent monthly,in the amount of $800.00 to a property management company. The apartment house and property I'm speaking of is now in litigation between two parties. Approximentely 4-5 months ago my family and I came home to no trespassing signs in windows and locks changed by the party who took the apartment house back.

To make a long story short the security and rent was paid to the management company upon moving in. We are now being asked for a second security deposit from the other party.

For the past 4 months we have been paying rent faithfully ($800.00/month) to who we thought were the new owners. However, I was told that myself and children have 32 days to get out due to none payment of a second security.

I do have a voicemail stating that they want $1200.00 because they have been waiting months for me to pay a second deposit. I was also told they would take our belongings as compensation.

Is any of this legal and is it my responsibility to pay 2 security deposits?

Also ... can a family with 2 young children be kicked out during winter months for what I believe is an unfair and illegal act?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I want my children to have a place to call home, especially during the holidays.

Thank you kindly, Kristal Bissett

I see a couple of violations of the landlord tenant law. First, the new owner had no rights to lock you out. That would be a self help eviction. That to say the least is frowned upon. As to the security deposit that would turn on what you lease says should happen. If it doesn't the case law would come in to play.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
