Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania
Roommate left / money disputes
I have a situation where my roommate left our apartment early. We weren't getting along. We got the landlord to modify the lease and put it all under my name. I agreed to pay her back the last months rent and deposit. Her dad is a lawyer and basically tried to strongarm as much money out of me as he could. There's many details to what happened to this separation, but basically, we eventually agreed to a $1228 I owed her back. I wrote a check and they never deposited it. it is now 9 months later and I received a call back re-requesting that I send them the check again. Now - after tons of threats and frustration - and not hearing from them for months, they ask for me to write another check. What do I do? I guess what is fair, is I write them the check, but do I legally still owe this to her?

If they have a lawyer you need a lawyer. It hardly seems worth it though.
If they want another check they need to give the old check back. One for your protection, so they don't cash both but also as evidence. If they won't do that then have the bank put a stop payment on it and send the new check less fees with an explanation.
