Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

Shutting off water

My water is included in my rent. My rent is up to date and the landlord shut my water off which also causes me to have no heat. I also have an 8 year old daughter. What can I do about this?

Re: Shutting off water

Well, you didn't say why the landlord shut off the water. If you paid your rent, why would landlord do this?

Anyway, your water may not be shut off by the landlord, as the landlord is required to provide you with a habitable apartment. An apartment without water and heat is not habitable.

Under the right circumstances, you can withhold your rent (put it in escrow) until the situation is fixed, and you could go to court to force him to put the water back on.

Either way, you need to speak with an attorney who can get the entire story and figure out the correct course of action.
