My son rented a house while in college. The land lord did not return his deposit in the required time. I t was sent 3 weeks later than the agreement called for. He took deductions for lightbulbs etc. can we sue him for 2x the amount and what is the statute of limitations?

The statutes ays within 30 days of vacating the lord has return the full deposit or a list of charges and then what ever is left of the deposit. If he doesn't then you may sue for double the deposit plus the cost of filing with the DJ. While it is true you can sue for twice the deposit if you do then the landlord can bring up the deposit deduction even if he hadn't done that The only county where that doesn'yt happen is Bucks.
You have 4 years to sue on a claiim arising out of a contract.
