squatters rights in pa.

I rent 1/2 acre of my primary residence to a couple with their own mobile home. it's a handshake deal with no paperwork. can they possibly ever claim ownership of my land?

No. Contract for the transfer of real estate must be in writing. Further, for them to claim adverse possession they have to show that for 21 years they openly occupied the land and didn't have your permission to do so. There are other requirements but they fail to meet this one.

That said it would be in both parties best interests to have a written lease.
