Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

Tenant/Lanlord

Pennsylvania. My security deposit was $1500 and my rent was $1200. I lived there for 2.5 years. I was not returned the $300 or any information on the escrow interest. Now the landlord is claiming damages in excess of $2000 and is asking me to pay the extra $500 that the deposit did not cover. Can he do that? The contract is not specific on damages and says nothing about paying for damages beyond the amount of the deposit.

Re: Tenant/Lanlord

You landlord is required to give you an estimate of damages before claiming the security deposit for damages. The security deposit if not mentioned in the lease is handled per the landlord tenant act.

To protect yourself did you and the landlord conduct a move out inspection? I know some people who even if they did that will take pictures either during that inspection or once they have the place cleared out.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
