is there a time limit you have to talk a landlord to court over a unreturned security deposit

there are to many fact that I would need to know to adequately respond. the landlord tenant act allows for certin times for landlord to return security deposit if tenant provides necessary information. the tenant can under certain circumstances sue for the security deposit and possibly more.
