In PA, an employer can do almost anything he likes, absent a writen contract or a union contract. Unfortunately, your son can either take his and risk losing his job, or cancel and shorten his vacation, He can also quit and find another job. Pa is an at-will state and that means an employer can fire an employee for almost any reason or impose rules on its employees, so long as they are legal. The only thing an employer cannot do is discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, etc. Sorry, but those are the facts.
