Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Pennsylvania

Terminating attorney

I am presently involved in a lawsuit; however, I am unhappy with the representation I am receiving. Do I have to: a) terminate my present attorney before another attorney will even talk to me about the possibility of taking this case, and, b) do I have to sever ties completely with my present attorney before I can look into the possibility of another attorney taking my case.

Re: Terminating attorney

No; you can consult other attorneys. They will want to avoid any appearance of looking like they're trying to steal another lawyers client, so they may advise you that you would need to discharge your current attorney becfore they can actually do anything on your behalf. But you are entitled to consult other counsel.
