Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Pennsylvania

Doctor's Meds Gave Me An Ulcer

I was prescribed Motrin and Voltarin by a Dr. and after taking it for 4 months I began to have severe pain in my abdomen. I went to E.R. and they told me I didn't have appendicitis and sent me home. The next day I was in even more pain, I couldn't even walk to the bathroom without crying and I called my family Dr., who told me to go to another E.R. This E.R. did every test they could and came to the conclusion I probably had an ulcer but they can't test for that, so they gave me a number for a G.I. Dr. who saw me and scheduled me for a colonoscopy and found a bad ulcer. He told me it was from the meds above and that Dr. should have gave me another med to protect me from this and this happens far too often to people. He even wrote me a note stating that for my work because my work wanted to suspend me for the days I missed because of this and it was their Worker's Comp Dr. that gave me the meds!

Re: Doctor's Meds Gave Me An Ulcer

If you believe you have a case, I encourage you to contact medical malpractice attorneys as SOON as possible to see if one is interested in taking this case. (Check lawguru.com, the Yellow Pages and/or your local Bar Association to find malpractice attorneys.)

Generally malpractice attorneys will discuss your situation over the phone without cost to see if they may be interested in the case.

The first doctor should have advised you that this class of drugs called NSAIDS can cause severe abdominal pain and ulcers, especially when taken without food. The cyto-protective agents referred to by the G.I. doctor may or may not have prevented this.

The first emergency room doctor should have picked this up from your history, and advise you of this as well.

That said, I dont see that your damages would justify my taking this case. Another attorney may well feel differently, so I urge you to inquire if you believe you have a case.

You raise a second issue related to your time off work. If you wish to pursue this, you might contact an employment lawyer. You will need to weigh your lost wages against the costs of such representation. BAR associations offer a low-cost initial consultation by these kinds of specialists to help you make that decision.
