Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Pennsylvania
i've been seeing the same eye dr now for approx 4 years. each time i've gone for exams, he's told me that my eye pressure was high. the last 2 exams, we did additional 'field tests' and he took images. last week when i went for additional tests, he finally told me that i had glaucoma and wanted to prescribe me eye drops. he spoke with me for a few minutes as to what the disease entailed and how it usually gets worse. long story short, i asked him if my medications (which have been on file with him since my very first visit) may have had anything to do with it. he looked in the file and was surprised himself to see a nasal spray which is a steroid. he admitted that yes, that medication tends to raise ey pressures which in turn can cause glaucoma. they ask every single time i go if there have been any changes to medicines, shouldn't he have spotted this a long time ago?????????

Don't assume the glaucoma you have is due to steroids. You probably should seek a second opinion concerning the mechanism responsible for causing your problem. The steroids may or may not have caused your problem or they may have exacerbated a preexisting condition..You don't state your age. Annual testing of intraoccular pressures is recommended after age 40. Remember that there are time limitations in every state concerning medical malpractice claims. Consult an experienced lawyer in your jurisdiction to protect any rights you may have. It is also essential for you to learn your prognosis and how it may have been altered for the worse by your course of care.
