Legal Question in Personal Injury in Pennsylvania

I was in an accident in may. I was coming home from college and fell asleep at the wheel. When I fell asleep, my car began to sway, and it swayed to the oncoming traffic. When I swayed over, I hit a car, and that made me wake up, and I attempted to get back into my lane. When I tried to get back into my lane, I hit the car that was next to me. I was frantic as soon as I woke, and I pulled over right away. The cops came and checked it all out. No one was hurt, just a couple scratches on the cars of the people involved. A witness that saw what happened pulled over and explained to the officer what he thought happened. He said that I was trying to pass the car in front of me by going into the oncoming traffic. I was given a citation for reckless driving, careless driving, and disregard for traffic lanes. I pleaded not guilty for all of it , and I went into court the other day. My officer did not show, and the judge said that I was going to get a continuation. My next hearing will be in a month. I thought if the cop didn't show that the case would be dismissed. If anyone could help me and give me some advice on what to do, that would be amazing. Thank you.

I would suggest you immediately speak with an atttorney as the charges particularly the reckless driving viloation are serious they inolve points and in the case of the reckless charge may involve loss of your license for a period of time.

You should view the continuance as a blessing in disguise because now you will have the opportunity to consult with a lawyer. I agree with the other suggestions that you should contact a lawyer. Reckless driving is a serious traffic offense and you don't want a conviction for this on your driving record. Also, in my experience, insurance companies will look at your driving record and depending on what violations you have been convicted of, they may charge you a premium surcharge.
