Legal Question in Personal Injury in Pennsylvania

Commercial Vehicle Insurance Limits

I was involved in an accident with a Staples delivery truck. The driver of the truck drove backwards down a busy blvd into a car in which I was the front seat passenger. The car was totaled and 3 of the 4 passengers inside were hurt. I've had 2 surgeries (ACDF 6/7, shoulder arthroscopic) and am now in pain management for chronic pain. I have a good lawyer and the case is scheduled for settlement or trial this summer. I know no one knows what type of settlement I can expect do to varying factors. However, does anyone know what the insurance limits are for commercial vehicles/companies in Pennsylvania? Just curious.

Re: Commercial Vehicle Insurance Limits

It has been a while since I've looked at the issue but I think if the truck is regulated as an interstate carrier under the ICC the minimum required liability limit is $500,000. I'm not certain of this, however, and I don't have a cite to the regulation or law requiring this. I believe it is in Title 49 of the U.S. Code.

The policy limits vary depending on how much coverage the company bought. Literally, the sky's the limit. Don't forget that you may also be entitled to underinsured motorist coverage.
