during a traffic stop another vehicle ran into the back of the patrol car, then the patrol car ran into the stopped vehicle injuring the officer does the officer have a claim against the person who hit him

Someone working on the job typically cannot sue their EMPLOYER for being hurt on the job. However, they can sue other third parties who have hurt them.
